I can recall vividly that cloudy Saturday morning. It was about to rain heavily, and I needed to go somewhere important, and I was already well dressed. There was no way I could allow rain to drench my well-ironed clothes. I rushed to get an umbrella; upon reaching where my umbrella was kept, I said to myself, “I’m the Son of the God of Heaven and Earth; I take authority over this weather.” The weather changed drastically in less than a minute of my faith declaration. I smiled and looked up to Heaven — Joshua must be proud of me.

That was some five years ago before I came in contact with the Faith that is in Christ. With the Faith exploits I had then, apologizing for my wrongdoing was impossible for me; envy and jealousy were my bosom friends. I can’t even pray some prayers anymore. The day I tried praying that the rain should hold still, despite being instructed by the Holy Ghost to leave home early, I was beaten black and blue by the rain from Obalende to CMS. I know say na disobedience finish me that day.

And that’s really the Faith in Christ — it can be likened to weaning a child from milk. You teach him/her certain disciplines and manner of life so that he/she can become a mature man. In the case of a believer, it is a change in how the Holy Ghost measures out instructions and dealings to you so that you can learn a higher manner of the spirit.

During my time at home, I had fewer temptations and fewer interactions with people, which meant less revealing of my wrong natures. But with my new job, there is always one situation or another that would warrant me to lean on the staff of Faith, what scripture says, and how the Holy Ghost prompts me. And I thank God for grace so far. The life of Faith now guides my thoughts, desires, ambitions, and interactions with my colleagues.

On my way to my office last Monday, I bumped into an elderly female cleaner in the elevator. She was carrying a bucket of water meant for mopping; the water spilled, and she was furious. As she yelled at me, I didn’t know when I prostrated to apologize to her. It was a defining moment for me. I have not brought myself so low in public before. The MD of my office saw me and was dumbfounded. I believe he hasn’t seen anyone display such meekness in the office before now. But anything for the kingdom. Anything for growth and giant strides in the spirit. It’s not like it has been easy, but hard is not impossible.

She eventually stopped yelling. I went into my office more peacefully than I had ever been. That must have been a work of God. I spent the next ten minutes thanking God for making me humble enough to seek peace with even lowly men, as the world may call them.
